Darden is a community that thrives on the experiences of people from diverse backgrounds. To elevate the diversity of perspectives at the School, members of the Darden community have created the following scholarships specifically for students in the LGBTQ community. No separate application required to be considered for these awards.
A Note About our Scholarship Process
Most of Darden’s merit-based scholarships do not require an additional application. If admitted, students will be evaluated for available scholarships, which are competitively awarded based on a variety of metrics and considerations. Some scholarships require a supplemental application.
In addition, certain third-party scholarships and fellowships are independently offered and awarded by the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation (and other third-party scholarships providers). These privately funded scholarships are likely to be targeted towards students from developing countries or underrepresented minority groups, or in specific areas of study. Examples of these non-University awarded scholarships can be found in several of the sections outlined below.
Typically, students will learn of any scholarship offer simultaneous with the offer of admission.
LGBTQ Scholarship Fund
Established in 2015 by Kirby Clarke Adams (MBA ’79), this scholarship was created for the purpose of providing financial support for outstanding LGBTQ students who have been admitted to the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. Adams recently retired from his 35-year global career during which he served as CEO, president and chairman of private and listed petroleum services, mining and metals companies headquartered in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, India and the U.K. Since 2014, he has served on the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees.
Point Foundation provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
REACHING OUT LGBTQ MBA FELLOWSHIP
The Reaching Out LGBTQ MBA Fellowship is a competitive Fellowship awarded to 1-2 LGBTQ or active ally students at Darden who not only demonstrate strong academic skills, but should demonstrate the capacity to be a leader for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
In addition to the financial support provided through Fellowships awarded by Darden, LGBTQ MBA Fellows have access to benefits that are designed to highlight them to Reaching Out’s 80+ corporate partners, connect them to network of 10,000+ peers and alumni that extend beyond their campus, and allow them to develop as out LGBTQ and active ally leaders.
