Batten Media Fellowships

Batten Media Fellowships allow professionals engaged in all aspects of the media to pursue an MBA at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. The fellowships cover full tuition and fees for both years of the Darden MBA and a stipend to cover a portion of living expenses. Each year, up to three fellowships may be awarded and they can be awarded to media professionals applying to Darden’s full-time MBA or Executive MBA.

Darden seeks Batten Media Fellows who demonstrate the potential for greater achievement and leadership. The selection process favors applicants who seek to improve the media’s contributions to the economic and social well-being of society. Candidates must:

  • Be citizens of the United States
  • Have at least three years of experience in the news media and be full-time employees of the news media, including newspapers, radio and television stations, magazines, electronic media outlets, the Associated Press and select other media organizations
  • Complete a Batten Media Fellows application obtained through the Darden Office of Financial Aid

Former Associated Press Chairman, former Landmark Communications CEO and Chairman, and The Weather Channel Founder Frank Batten established the fellowships in 1988 to give men and women committed to a career in the media the opportunity to develop the skills needed to lead and manage a successful media enterprise.
