EE - Open Programs

We advise each participant to read at least the first two days of materials to prepare for their time at Darden. An hour of preparation per case study is highly encouraged. As you read along, be sure to take a look at the assignment questions the faculty have provided and take any personal notes as assignments will not be collected in class, but are rather used as a guide for discussion. If you would like a hard copy of any of the materials, please plan to print those and bring them with you. You can also bring your laptop or tablet with you if you want to access the materials during the session.

1. Reading the case: Spend about an hour reading and thinking carefully about each case. You will be expected to: identify problems, consider alternatives, analyze data, make decisions, and outline a suggested course of action.

2. Class preparation and expectation: You should come to class prepared to think, to share your ideas, to respond to others, and to defend your decisions. In class, the faculty will facilitate a discussion to explore the diverse views, opinions, and judgments of the participants. The objective of the class discussion is to explore a range of options and recommendations based on the situation in the case, as well as the rationale behind those options and recommendations. The direction in which the class discussions go is the collective responsibility of the group.

3. Personal reflection: You should reflect on what you learned from the experience. Take time to consider the underlying principles as well as how your initial ideas changed as a result of learning team and class discussions: Did you understand the situation and its implications? What were the key insights? How did others view the issues differently? Where can you apply what you’ve learned to your own activities?

Business casual attire is recommended for class sessions. All classrooms are temperature controlled but a sweater or light jacket is recommended for comfort in the classroom sessions.

We recommend bringing your laptop to class to reference the case materials if needed during the session. Please bring any items to ensure your comfort, i.e. water bottle, phone charger.

It can vary by program, but on average we have 20-30 people in each program.
