John Rosenblum

Education: A.B. in Mathematics and Economics, Brown University; DBA, Harvard Business School

After a year as interim dean, Rosenblum was appointed the fourth dean of Darden in 1983. He arrived at Darden in 1979 after serving for 10 years on the Harvard Business School faculty. His charisma and passionate teaching style in policy, strategy and leadership were his hallmark in the classroom. During his service, he placed Darden on a rapid upward trajectory of excellence. His focus: Attract the best faculty, align Darden closely to the University of Virginia and develop a global presence. On all counts, he delivered, catapulting Darden to eminence. He saw ethical decision-making as central to effective leadership and during his tenure, Darden became the first graduate business school to develop and implement a required ethics course.

Dean Rosenblum envisioned new grounds for Darden. With a bold vision and entrepreneurial spirit, architectural designs and a capital campaign launched Phase I of the William H. Goodwin Jr. Grounds. The iconic Grounds at 100 Darden Boulevard are the result. Dean Rosenblum is revered as a statesman, teacher, policy maker and change agent; he is held in the highest esteem. In 1993, he returned to the Darden faculty, and from 1996 to 2000, was dean of Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.

Today, Dean Rosenblum continues his service on business and not-for-profit boards, and he and his wife, Carolyn, divide the year between their farm in Crozet, Virginia, and home in St. George, Maine.
