Do I need to register for healthcare?
Per guidance from the University of Virginia, all students at the University of Virginia that are charged the full comprehensive fees with their tuition are required to have health insurance coverage. By these key deadlines, students must either:
- Enroll in the UVA Aetna Student Health Plan. By clicking on the link – you can learn
- Submit proof of current health insurance coverage that is comparable to the Aetna Student Health Plan and thereby waive the Aetna option.

If I am an international student, is there anything particular that I need to know about registering for healthcare?
As an international student, you can learn about what it means to obtain comparable coverage, if you choose not to pursue the Aetna Student Health Plan. All international students are required to maintain adequate health insurance for their spouse and all dependents throughout their presence in the U.S., while affiliated with UVA.

The student health and wellness building is located on 550 Brandon Ave.

What if I need care outside of the Student Health and Wellness center?
Please note that visiting an out-of-network provider may result in additional out-of-pocket costs.

- Central Virginia Health Services and Blue Ridge Medical Center : medical and dental care with discounted rates based on income

- Blue Ridge Area Food Bank: free food/meals at most income levels

Lactation Spaces at Darden (Abbott Wellness 1 and 2)
Students can use the Darden Outlook system to reserve these rooms. Darden partners with children are welcome to use the spaces as well. This is located right before the restrooms in the Abbot Dining space. If interested, please reach out to Katie Manning at manningk@darden.virginia.edu.

Where can I seek dental care?
There are a number of dental clinics that accept Aetna student health care insurance.
Additionally, the University of Virginia has a Department of Dentistry to which you can reach out for patient inquiries, requests for appointments, or consultations. -
Is my dental care included in my healthcare plan if I register for the Aetna student plan?
You actually have to register for and purchase a dental plan separately. You can learn more about the insured dental program through Aetna by reviewing this resource provided by the Student Health and Wellness Center.
Mental Health, Nutrition, and Accessibility

Where can I seek mental health support at Darden?
At Darden, we have two mental health support professionals - Dr. Debbie Wilson and Karen Painter: To have a meeting with Dr. Wilson or Ms. Painter, either e-mail DardenCAPS@darden.virginia.edu with your availability or call the main CAPS line at +1-434-243-5150 and identify yourself as a Darden student wishing to schedule with Dr. Wilson or Ms. Painter.
Accessing Timely Care
TimelyCare: This is a free service – regardless of your insurance provider – is available for students both in crisis (24/7 care) as well as on-going needs (up to 12 sessions) with the latter having wait times of 24-48 hours. Three quick things:
- Use your UVA (e.g. slw3n) e-mail address when logging in.
- If you are trying to access Psychiatry, you’ll need a code that will be provided by either a TimelyCare or CAPS counselor after speaking with that person.
- If you are having technical difficulties with the site or app, call +1-833-484-6359.

Mental Health Wellness/Prayer Space (Room 234)
This room will be intended for students who are looking for a space to engage in personal prayer time and/or mindfulness. This room can be used as a space for students who are feeling anxiety/stress/in need of a private space to cope with overwhelming time intervals during the MBA experience. Where can I seek mental health support outside of Darden?
The UVA Women's Center provides free virtual or in-person counseling to all current students, regardless of gender identity.
Help Happens Here helps residents find or low-cost mental health services in the community. -
What resources are available for nutrition-based counseling?
UVA Nutrition offers appointments for students who would like help with creating a nutrition plan based on your unique medical needs.

Where can I find information regarding student accessibility?
Darden, as a part of UVA’s larger mission is committed to ensuring equal access to our programs, services, and activities for individuals with disabilities, and has many tools and resources to support an inclusive and accessible environment for everyone.

- Student Legal Services provides low-cost, confidential, legal assistance on a variety of legal matters.
- UVA Central has also developed a comprehensive list on support for food, clothing, transportation, and other needs. It can be accessed here.
We know that taking two years off from work requires a lot of thought and financial planning. If you ever have questions about applying for or processing information related to financial aid, please don’t hesitate to contact the Darden Financial Aid Office.

Darden Food Pantry
The purpose of the Hoos Pantry at North Grounds is to provide students with consistent, reliable access to food items. This is especially important in ensuring that no one in our community experiences food insecurity. In the past, the food pantry has been stocked with non-perishable food items include a mix of the following, depending on availability: mac and cheese, Thai noodles, chickpea beans, black beans, apple sauce, granola bars, cereal, rice, quinoa, couscous, coffee, tea, toilet paper, paper towels, and sanitary items. Please take what you may need.
The food pantry is located Down the hall and around the corner from Classroom 50 (bottom floor of the classroom building). The non-perishable items are in the metal cabinets right next to the fridge. Students can reach out to Sarah Elliott with any needs/questions. All inquiries will be anonymous.

Student Fridge
There is a student fridge adjacent to where the mailboxes are situated. Additionally, there is also a printer located in this room. You can use this fridge to store food that you’ve brought for the day. In the side room next to Café 67, there is a microwave that you can use to warm up any food that you’ve brought with you.
